Dear Colleagues,
It gives me immense pleasure to write this message at the launch of the official webpage of the Pakistan Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. As the founding president, I am thrilled to see this significant milestone in our journey towards advancing the field of cardiothoracic anesthesia in Pakistan. This webpage serves as a digital hub where we can connect, collaborate, and share knowledge and resources to further enhance our practice and improve patient care.
Reflecting on our journey as the Pakistan Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the progress we have made since our start. As the founding president, I am honored to share a brief overview of our history and the strides we have taken to advance our specialty in Pakistan.
Our association was set up with a vision to unite cardiothoracic anesthesiologists across the country, foster collaboration, and elevate the standards of care in our field. Our Association was registered on 3rd February 2009. Seven anesthesiologists including Myself, Dr. Shahab Naqvi, Dr. Yunus Khatri, Dr. Hameed ullah, Dr. Salman Waris, Dr. Sadiqa Aftab and Dr. Waseem Asmat Chowdry were selected as the members of the management committee to run the affairs of PACTA. Our first Conference was held in 2009 at the Regent Plaza Hotel in Karachi and was Hosted by National institute of cardiovascular diseases.
From humble beginnings, we have grown into a vibrant community of resolute professionals, united by our passion for excellence and commitment to patient safety. Over the years, we have organized numerous educational events, workshops, and conferences, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and skill enhancement. These initiatives have not only enriched the ability of our members but have also contributed to the overall advancement of cardiothoracic anesthesia practice in Pakistan.
As we look to the future, our commitment to excellence remains unwavering. We will continue to innovate, collaborate, and advocate for the advancement of cardiothoracic anesthesia in Pakistan. Together, we will strive to enhance patient outcomes, promote professional development, and uphold the highest standards of ethical practice.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to all members of our association for their dedication, passion, and contributions to our shared mission. Your tireless efforts have been instrumental in shaping the suc
cess story of the Pakistan Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia.
Warm regards,

Dear Colleagues
It is with great pleasure that I write these few lines as ex-President of Pakistan Association of Cardiac Anaesthesia (PACTA). I am proud that our esteemed society has made a great progress during last decade. At the same time, I do remember when on a hot Sunday afternoon of Karachi, me and Prof Fazal Hameed Khan sitting in his office at Aga Khan University Hospital, trying to figure out the bylaws and name of the society. When the name “Pakistan Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists” came up we both liked the sound and “aroma” of the word “PACTA”. During the same sitting, we made first phone call to Prof Rehana Kamal for her patronage and next call to (Late) Prof Rehana Yaseen. After some discussion a date was decided and first ever meeting was held at National Institute of Cardiology (NICVD) Karachi. Logo was later designed at AFIC-NIHD Rawalpindi.
I am grateful to have served as second President of this esteemed society. Since the day of its inception, the society has shown a great promise and has evolved as a unique bond amongst the cardiac anaesthetists of Pakistan, in addition to being a platform of academic activities. Our later coming Presidents have worked hard to continue the momentum and make further progress.
It is heartening to see that, as the practice of cardiac anaesthesia is getting more and more difficult due to increasing complexity of cases, upcoming technologies, and newer surgical and interventional cardiology techniques, our younger colleagues are learning fast to keep abreast with the pace. Now, every patient needs tailored pre-, peri-, and postoperative management, further strengthening the concept of anaesthesiologist being a good “Perioperative Physician”.
In the end I would say that I look forward to witnessing the continued success and growth of society in years to come.
Warm regards.
Prof. Shahab Naqvi
Past President
PACTA
Pakistan Association of, Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist
I am honored by your mandate to be the 3rd president of Pakistan Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist for the year 2013 to 2015. Cardiothoracic anesthesia is an upcoming faculty of anesthesia, to which I am associated for the last 25 years.
PACTA was formed in February, 2009 with the intention to promote, excellence in clinical care for cardiac surgical patients, education and research in this growing specialty. Since the association is under its formative years, we have several issues that require attention. These include raising awareness regarding the existence of this association, educational activities, making policies, increasing interest in the activation of association among the members and so on.
Despite, time and work constraints, me and my team of executive committee members tried to set some targets during the last period. The PACTA website is one of these and we have successfully launched the PACTA website. Please note that our website is located at www.pactapakistan.org . This website celebrates the forward thinking and progressive view of the association and our successes in getting wider recognition for the expertise represented within our membership. I would like to express my gratitude to our Founding president, past presidents, Patron PACTA, and members of the executive committee.
I hope that the Pakistan Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia will grow further and together, we will be able to provide excellent care to our patients.
