OBITUARY

Dr Kashif Anwar

Inna lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Rajiuoon: Verily we belong to Allah, and truly to him shall we return.
About two weeks back we heard the news about Dr Kashif Anwar’s Coronary artery bypass surgery in Peshawar. He had a very turbulent postoperative course. He was reoperated and put on ECMO support but unfortunately, he passed away after few days on ECMO on 5th February 2024.
It was a shocking news for us as we met him in December last year at a symposium where he conducted a workshop on central line placement and its care. I can recall his remarkable ability to lead with both confidence and humility. His leadership style was not about authority, but about guiding juniors, helping them grow.
Dr Kashif is a graduate of Khyber Medical college, Peshawar and achieved his specialization from Royal college of Anaesthetists Ireland in 2006. He served in several Ireland hospitals from 1994 – 2012, and then returned to Peshawar, where he worked in different hospitals, including Rehman Medical Institute where he was head of the department. His last appointment was, Head of the department of Anaesthesiolgy at Peshawar Institute of Cardiology. He was the one who started cardiac anaesthesia in private sector of KP. He was considered as a very passionate and competent person who is always willing to teach his juniors.
He was also a very active member of the anaesthesia community. He participated in several PSA conferences, In fact, he was supposed to join us in this conference as well. He was elected as president Pakistan Society of Anaesthesiologists KP chapter in 2021. He has the honor of executive member of PSA Centre as well. His contribution to anaesthesia community will be remembered for long time.
May Allah SWT grant him the highest place in Jannat and give strength and solace to the family and friends in this time of mourning. Ameen.
